LA 92 is a 2017 documentary film directed T.J. Martin and Daniel Lindsay about the Los Angeles Riots of 1992 and the events that led to them. The documentary tells the harrowing story of the Los Angeles Police Department and their overt oppression and marginalization of African Americans living in their jurisdiction beginning all the way back in 1965 with the Watt Riots. At every angle of government, corruption and racism is shown to elicit harm to black and brown bodies. This goes on for decades until the beating of Rodney King brings the city to its needs. This documentary is not for faint of heart but takes a necessary look at one of the many policing systems in our country that have failed to “serve and protect” people of color. It’s available on Hulu and Netflix, with a 114 minute runtime.
