Woke Church:
An Urgent Call for Christians in America to Confront Racism and Injustice
By Eric Mason
Woke Church was one of the first books I ever read on race and the church. The title kind of says it all. To be a “woke” church is to collectively understand and fight for God’s heart for racial equality, and also radically pursue racial justice as the Body of Christ. Eric Mason is the head pastor of Epiphany Fellowship in Philadelphia, PA. His writing is like lightning. This short read is like a battle cry for Black Christian’s hoping their primarily White churches to wake up and help in the healing of the tragic history of Racism and the American Church. For White Christians this is a petition for their eye’s to be opened to an ability to in step with the gospel of Jesus Christ in terms of racial justice. This short book pulls few punches, and anyone that reads it walks away both encouraged and challenged.
