The Hate You Give
By Angie Thomas
The Hate You Give is beautifully written yet poignant book as it explores the topics of race, grief, police brutality, interracial dating, media depiction of African Americans, wealth disparity and more. While this is a fictional young adult book that follows the life of a teenage girl named Star, The Hate You Give, powerfully tells an all too familiar story of the impact from broken systems and broken people and reminds readers that racism is not dead. While the book is written from a secular perspective, it reminds the believer of how broken the world is and how our hearts should break from the effect of sin on the world. The book is a quick but powerful read.
